Have you ever dreamed of working for a specific company… but it just seemed impossible because you didn’t know anyone that worked there?
This is one of the biggest perceived obstacles getting in the way of people pursuing dream jobs.
“Yeah… I’d LOVE to work THERE, but I don’t know anyone.
How could I ever get in the door?”
Whenever we hold a BIG Dream Gathering, I talk to at least one person who’s feeling this way.
That’s when I tell them about J.T. Fox.
I met J.T. on my way to a speaking gig in New York.
We wound up sitting at a table together at Chicago’s O’Hare airport.
As we connected, we quickly figured out we were headed to the same conference where I was going to be keynoting.
(Here’s a photo I took at O’Hare… of J.T. and his friend Cliff.)
As we talked… J.T., Cliff and I dug into what their dream jobs would be. (I just can’t help myself. It’s just one of my favorite subjects!)
J.T. said he’d LOVE to work for Fox Racing. (It’s a motocross racing equipment company. He’d used their products for years and he admitted to dreaming of working for them since he was little.)
BUT he also quickly admitted that he didn’t know anyone there… and he let me know he didn’t have a clue on how to get started making that dream job a reality.
Almost instantly… you could see the mental road blocks go up. He started to shut down. But we didn’t stop there. We started to explore strategies for breaking through and connecting with people at Fox. Simple things that would take some work but wouldn’t cost him a penny. Most importantly, they were tasks he could start doing right away.
I don’t want to ruin the story and I’d rather have you hear it right from J.T. himself…. because what happened next was AMAZING.
So listen in and enjoy!
If you’ve ever had a dream job in mind… but thought that it might be crazy to pursue it… you need to hear this interview.
I think you’ll love it. Dig in and let me know what parts of J.T.’s story stood out to you. Comment below and join in the discussion.
